Thrift Store Finds

Gambar
Hi there, friends! Welcome to another edition of Tightwad Tuesday here on Home Made Modern! I absolutely love decorating with Goodwill finds. I hit the jackpot the last time I went thrifting in terms of finding good glassware and dishes to make over. You may recall, I put some glam touches on a wine decanter , and I also found this silver bowl. It had a great shape, but it was really scratched up and even had some small dents. Nothing a little spray paint can't fix, right? At first, I thought I'd just spray it silver or gold, but then I was inspired by this Nate Berkus laurel leaf bowl from Target. It's no longer available, but I had really liked it when I saw it. I would never spend $30, though, on something like a bowl, so I watched for it to go on clearance, but missed the boat. Never fear! I sprayed my Goodwill find white instead and used a stencil I already had to create a tiny laurel leaf pattern around the outside of the bowl.  I also painted the rim with g...

Anthropologie Terrarium Knockoff

Gambar
Hey there! So right off the bat, I'm gonna tell you I cheated a little with this Anthropologie knockoff project because I already had the glass globe planted with a succulent. So for this project, all I had to buy was a small bag of Quickcrete. However, I priced the globes online and you can pick them up for around $7 or $8, and the rocks are only $1 at the dollar store, so you're still saving a ton of money by making your own planetarium terrarium, and it looks just like Anthropologie's , which have the nerve of selling for $58 without the plant! (I love their style, just not their prices.) Here's the how-to: Anthropologie Planetarium Terrarium Knockoff Nap Rating = 1 nap (not including the time it takes for the concrete to set) Tools and Materials 1 small bag of Quickcrete Plastic bucket Paint stirrer Garden hand spade 1 large empty oatmeal container 1 small empty oatmeal container 7" glass globe Small amount of potting soil Decorative pebbles 1 air plant or...

Knock Off: Z Gallerie Ming Box

Gambar
Hey, hey! I'm really proud of my latest knock off. Z Gallerie's Ming Boxes were just the thing I needed to corral all of the chargers on our nightstand, but I didn't want to pay $59.95 for a set of them. Besides, I only needed one. So with a few craft supplies and some patience, I made my own decorative storage box and it looks very similar to the ones I coveted. What do you think? Theirs $59.95 Mine $12 Here's how I made it: Z Gallerie Ming Box Knock Off Nap Rating = 2 naps (not including dry-time) Tools & Materials Unfinished, hinged wooden box Painter's tape Spray primer and paint in color of your choice Printer Cardboard Craft knife Gold leaf paint pen Glue Small paintbrush Steps Tape off the hinges using painter's tape. I tore off a piece of tape and pressed it firmly all along the hinge's edges so I could see where to score the tape with my knife. Then I peeled away the excess. Prime the box with spray primer. Let dry. Spray the box with ...
