Decorating with Red

Gambar
Hi there! So how do you feel about red? I must admit, other than at Christmastime, there's hardly a single thing that's red in our house. It just doesn't do it for me. Color is all about feeling something, don't you agree? And isn't it funny how colors make different people feel different things? I think the whole psychology-thing behind color is really interesting. So in that vein, I wrote about red accessories the other day on About. I thought it would be interesting to explore a color I don't care for to see if I could see it in a different light. And you know what? I learned that red is so versatile! It has the power to really change the feel of a room, more so than any other color. See for yourself. Take my red quiz by matching up the words across the top with the columns of accessories. Valentine's Day Desserts

Gambar
Over the years, I've made a few yummy desserts for Valentine's Day. I'm not gonna lie. I don't need another excuse to bake, but Valentine's Day does afford another opportunity to indulge my weakness. Thankfully, we have a couple of daughters who love sweets as much as I do, or I'd be about 50 pounds heavier! In my eyes, baking something from scratch is one way to show someone you love them. So...here are a handful of desserts that are perfect for February 14th. Cherry Sweetie Pies Turtle Cheesecake Cherry Chocolate Scones Cherry Vanilla Smoothies White Chocolate Raspberry Scones Grilled Chocolate Marshmallow Sandwiches Hope these inspire you to make something sweet for your sweeties this Valentine's Day!

Hi there! How are you today? So, do you have big plans for Valentine's Day? Our kids are busy addressing their class valentines and I'll be helping out with some class parties. As a family, we may do some fondue that evening, but we typically don't celebrate this particular holiday in a BIG big way. Did you see my Valentine chalkboard art , though? I love how it turned out. Valentine Chalkboard Art

Gambar
Hi guys! Do you still have a Christmas wreath on your front door? Well, I've got a 10-minute solution to THAT particular problem! It's almost Valentine's Day, so yesterday I whipped up this cute chalkboard art for our door. It was so easy, guys, and it literally only took about 10 minutes. First, I found this great magnetic chalkboard at Jo-Anns for 50% off, so it was only $4.50. It had an unfinished wood frame so I brushed a little stain I had left over from another project on it to make it look more rustic. While that was drying, I went in search of more craft supplies. I had a package of paper doilies, so that inspired me. I just cut out a red heart and glued it to the doily. After the frame of the chalkboard was dry, I flipped it over and stapled some rope to the back for a hanger. Next I wiped the whole chalkboard with an eraser to "season" it (here are some more tips on how to create chalkboard art ), then wrote "Welcome" on it in Janda

Thrift Store Finds

Hi there, friends! Welcome to another edition of Tightwad Tuesday here on Home Made Modern! I absolutely love decorating with Goodwill finds. I hit the jackpot the last time I went thrifting in terms of finding good glassware and dishes to make over. You may recall, I put some glam touches on a wine decanter , and I also found this silver bowl. It had a great shape, but it was really scratched up and even had some small dents. Nothing a little spray paint can't fix, right? At first, I thought I'd just spray it silver or gold, but then I was inspired by this Nate Berkus laurel leaf bowl from Target. It's no longer available, but I had really liked it when I saw it. I would never spend $30, though, on something like a bowl, so I watched for it to go on clearance, but missed the boat. Never fear! I sprayed my Goodwill find white instead and used a stencil I already had to create a tiny laurel leaf pattern around the outside of the bowl.  I also painted the rim with g
