Outdoor Wall Art



Hi there! I'm excited to show you my latest project because, quite frankly, I haven't crafted anything in awhile! I made a piece of weatherproof, outdoor wall art and it hardly cost a thing, guys. So here we go:



Outdoor Wall Art

Tools & Materials
  • Wood pallet
  • Vinyl tablecloth (or vinyl by-the-yard from a fabric or craft store)
  • Printer
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Scotch tape
  • Freezer paper
  • Iron
  • Spray paint
  • Newspaper
  • Painter's tape
  • Sharpie marker
  • Staple gun

Steps
  1. First, locate a silhouette image or a quotation you would like for your art. I chose a silhouette of Ohio because I wanted this to be something we could keep up all season, but I wanted it to be kinda patriotic, too, because of our big, annual Fourth of July party.
  2. Resize your image to fit nicely on the size pallet you have and print it out. Because of its size, it will print out in tiles.
  3. Starting in the top left corner, piece together the tiles of your image like a puzzle, cutting off the skinny white spaces on the left and tops of each of your tiles.
  4. Tape your tiles together, overlapping the cut sides of each tile on top of the skinny white spaces left on the right and bottoms of each tile.
  5. Once the entire puzzle is taped together, cut out the words or silhoutte, making a big pattern.
  6. Lay the pattern of your image on top of the dull side of a sheet of freezer paper and trace it.
  7. Cut out the negative space of your image, leaving you with a stencil like this.
  8. Center your freezer paper stencil on a vinyl tablecloth and using an iron set on its lowest setting with no steam, carefully iron it onto the tablecloth. (I would highly suggest testing your iron's heat on an inconspicuous part of the tablecloth first so you can make sure that it won't melt the vinyl. Mine actually needed turned up a bit from the lowest setting, but I was very careful to keep the iron moving.)
  9. Once the pattern is adhered to the tablecloth, cover any parts of the tablecloth that you don't want paint to get on with newspaper and tape it down securely with painter's tape.
  10. Spray inside your freezer paper stencil. This may take a couple of coats. Remove your freezer paper stencil and any newspaper or tape to reveal your image.
  11. For extra detail--I added a heart where our town is on the map--use a Sharpie marker.
  12. Position the tablecloth on your pallet so that the artwork is centered and use a staple gun to securely wrap the pallet like a package.

Lazy Susan Coffee Station

Hey, hello, how are ya? I finished up a couple of projects in our never-ending kitchen reno this weekend and boy, does it feel good to check stuff off the list. First off, I finally got around to organizing our coffee supplies in one corner of our counter by upcycling an old lazy susan. I made a coffee station on top of the lazy susan and put it next to our Keurig so everything would be nice and handy. Oh, and I used an old mug tree I bought for a buck at a sidewalk sale, too. All I did to make it look cohesive is spray paint both the lazy susan and the mug tree with white spray paint, then I decoupaged a piece of decorative paper the same color as our turquoise coffee mugs to the top of the lazy susan using Mod Podge. I added my cow creamer and a sugar packet holder for tea bags and voila! I love that I can spin the lazy susan to access mugs hanging on the back of the mug tree. Pumpkin Patch Pudding Cups

Did you know Halloween is the third most popular holiday in America, topped only by Thanksgiving and Christmas? If you have kids, this probably comes as no surprise. Children anticipate Halloween almost as wildly as Christmas morning, mostly because of the candy, but also because of the fun class parties and costume parades that happen each year at school. I often volunteer for our kids' class parties because it's so fun to see all of the cuties in their costumes. Here's a Halloween class treat idea for you: Pumpkin Patch Pudding Cups Steps Tear the foil lids off of the pudding cups and line them up on a rimmed cookie sheet or tray to make them easier to carry. Sprinkle chocolate cookie crumbs (you can use finely-crushed Oreos if you can't find the boxed kind) on top of the pudding.
