Hi there! I'm really excited to be a part of Sugar Bee Craft's Red, White and Blue series! Check out a ton of inspiring ideas for July 4th over on Sugar Bee Crafts! Today I'm showing you how to customize votive candles to dress up your patriotic table with a vintage vibe.

Handkerchief-Covered Votives

Tools & Materials
  • Glass votive candle holders with smooth sides
  • Vintage handkerchiefs (I used ones in red, white and blue for this holiday project, but you could use any you like. I also mixed in some votives I made with denim-blue origami paper)
  • Flatbed scanner / color printer
  • Pencil
  • Outdoor Mod-Podge
  • Foam brush
  • Scissors

Steps
  1. Make a pattern of your votive candle by placing it on a sheet of plain paper and rolling it while you trace both the top and bottom edge. Cut the pattern out.
  2. Iron your handkerchief(s) to get rid of fold marks
  3. Place your handkerchief on a flatbed scanner, right-side down and scan the cloth. Print out the scanned image.
  4. Lightly trace your votive pattern onto your newly printed paper with a pencil. Cut out.
  5. Using the foam brush, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge directly to the votive holder. Place your printed paper onto the votive holder, smoothing it out as you go.
  6. Brush Mod-Podge on top of the paper. Let dry. Apply a second coat. Let dry.
  7. When completely dry, use scissors to trim any excess paper sticking over the edges of your votive.

Pumpkin Patch Pudding Cups

Did you know Halloween is the third most popular holiday in America, topped only by Thanksgiving and Christmas? If you have kids, this probably comes as no surprise. Children anticipate Halloween almost as wildly as Christmas morning, mostly because of the candy, but also because of the fun class parties and costume parades that happen each year at school. I often volunteer for our kids' class parties because it's so fun to see all of the cuties in their costumes. Here's a Halloween class treat idea for you: Pumpkin Patch Pudding Cups Steps Tear the foil lids off of the pudding cups and line them up on a rimmed cookie sheet or tray to make them easier to carry. Sprinkle chocolate cookie crumbs (you can use finely-crushed Oreos if you can't find the boxed kind) on top of the pudding. Hey there! Happy Monday! Have you undecorated for Christmas yet? I have to do a decoration detox for a bit after the holidays. I keep the decor to a minimum, but around now, I start to think about Valentine's Day decorations. I think it's hard to work with red and pink since our house is mostly blue, gray and green.
